The Inaugural Black Children's Book Week

Black History Month is getting an extension!

In an effort to promote literature that shows love to Black children, Veronica Chapman of Black Baby Books has created Black Children's Book Week. This is a global celebration of Black children, and those who make sure they are represented in books and stories.

Black Children's Book Week will begin on February 27th this year. There are many beautiful ways the event has suggested that you can celebrate Black Children's Book Week:

  • Buy books featuring black characters from a Black-owned bookstore. Check out the Community Book Center or Baldwin & Co. for some great titles!

  • Leave a review for your favorite book featuring black children.

  • Work with a black child to write their own story featuring black characters.

  • And of course - read books featuring black characters to black children!

Make it a read-a-thon! How many books can your family read during Black Children's Book Week?

Follow Black Children's Book Week on Instagram for more events and updates.

Happy Reading!
