Although we live in a hot, humid climate it definitely doesn’t exempt us from experiencing drier skin during the colder months. Once October rolls around I usually throw an extra chapstick in my purse and swap out my lotions for a thicker consistency. To be honest, it never really dawned on me but our children experience the same dry, cracked, irritated skin we deal with during the winter.
It wasn’t until I noticed that my youngest may have inherited eczema from me that I started to pay more attention to the changes in their skin and the seasons. One or two dry patches can spread into a rash quickly and possibly cause your little one some discomfort. I’ve rounded 4 lotions that you can use for every season/occasion of the year to keep your little one smelling good, moisturized, and happy!
Aveeno Eczema Lotion: This lotion is great for eczema prone skin and the colder months.
I originally purchased this lotion when I noticed my son’s skin getting patchy rashes around 5-6 months old. I, myself, have dealt with eczema my entire life so I knew of several possible concoctions to whip up for him. Once I tried the Aveeno Eczema Lotion everything else went out the window! I love that the lotion is super thick and doesn’t have a scent, as to not cause any more irritation to the skin. I use this on my son every night, no matter the season, and on my daughter only during the colder months. I also sneak and use it as my night time lotion when I need an extra boost of moisture.
Shea Moisture 100% Virgin Coconut Oil Lotion: All of Shea Moisture products are unisex but I like to use this scent specifically on my son. It's made with 100% Virgin Coconut Oil, Murumuru Butter, Sweet Pea, and blends magnificently with your baby’s natural pheromones. It’s perfect for skin that is more delicate and requires a thick lotion to stay moisturized. This is the lotion I put on my son when getting dressed to leave the house but it’s also great for straight out of the shower. The sweet pea gives off an illuminating scent that makes him smell like he has on a little baby cologne.
Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Lotion: I have been using this lotion on my daughter since she was one year old and we always go back to it. It’s made with Raw Shea Butter, Chamomile, Argan Oil, Frankincense, and Myrrh. It smells absolutely amazing and gives off a very calming aroma. It’s basically what you would expect to smell like if you bathe in a bunch of organic oils. Simply divine.
Dove Baby Lotion: My husband purchased this lotion by accident but let’s just say no one is complaining! It’s perfect if you want something that is super moisturizing but not too thick. Although it’s “made for babies” this lotion is used by everyone in the house. It’s unscented without having that weird “I say I’m unscented, but I really stink” smell. If you can only try one this is the lotion I would get because it hits so many benchmarks and can be used year-round.
